Trauma Therapy

in Central Illinois

Welcome to Embodied Hope Therapy, LLC! Unhealed trauma is stored and re-lived in the body, and as much as we may try, we cannot talk or think our way out of it. But healing is possible!

At Embodied Hope, we believe that you not only make sense, but you were designed with everything inside of you that you need to heal, grow, transform and thrive. Most people just need a guide to help them tap into their embodied hope.

This is a space where every part of you is welcome. We are glad you are here and hope you will stay a while. Our office is located at Breathe - A Center for Healing and Wellness in Heyworth Illinois. Virtual therapy is also available for anyone in the state of Illinois.

My Approach

Laura is skilled at using a wide variety of therapeutic approaches, including EMDR, AEDP, attachment work, IFS-informed and parts work, emotion-focused therapy, somatic and body-based therapies, mindfulness, inner child work and relational psychotherapy. However, she tailors her approach based on the specific goals and strengths of the client, so that each person experiences therapy that is a good fit for them. All the therapy she does is evidence-based, polyvagal informed, and is designed to be empowering, with a focus on de-pathologizing the person.

“Trauma, is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by that experience on mind, brain, and body.” — Bessel van der Kolk, MD

“Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, offers a way to understand the human autonomic nervous system and directly engage with habitual patterns of response. Through a polyvagal lens we can learn to listen to our embodied stories.” — Deb Dana, LCSW

“Early-life experiences lay the blueprints for attachment patterns. When the primary childhood caregivers are unable, for whatever reason, to meet the child's needs of safety, trust, attunement, love etc., a secure attachment is inhibited." — Diane Poole Heller, PhD

"It's never too late to have the childhood we deserve.” — Peter Levine, PhD
